Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian and Senator Jason Lewis Join the Legislature to pass $200 Million Supplemental Budget

(BOSTON — 8/4/2023) On July 31, 2023, Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian (D-Melrose) and Senator Jason Lewis (D-Winchester) joined their colleagues in the legislature in passing a $200 million supplemental budget, which included $180 million in critical relief for financially strained hospitals in the state, an extension of simulcasting and live horse racing until December 15, 2025, and $20 million in funding for farms that have been devastated by natural disasters, including flooding and unseasonal deep freezes.

“This supplemental budget provides necessary funding to a number of critical pillars in our communities, including $180M to distressed hospitals such as MelroseWakefield Hospital,” said Representative Lipper-Garabedian. “In partnership with the full legislature, I am proud to have quickly passed this supplemental budget with my colleagues to provide targeted relief across the Commonwealth."

“Promoting public health is always one of my top priorities. I’m pleased that we are able to provide much-needed aid to support struggling hospitals,” said State Senator Jason Lewis. “Especially after last week’s destructive flooding, assisting local farms is also important to strengthen our state’s economy.”

The bill was sent to the Governor after passage and signed into law on the morning of August 1.
